  • About Me

Hello future families! My name is Dana and I am currently finishing my last semester of my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University. My future goals include furthering my career and obtaining a Masters degree in Social Work.
Children and youth are my passion - I have over 10 years of experience working with children. I started out as a babysitter and tutor around 12-14 years of age. I have always been extremely responsible, and that trait has only grown with me. My work in daycare has given me the opportunity to work with very young children (as young as 6 weeks!) and begin my experiences working with children in a larger group setting. I was able to develop my creativity and patience in these situations. Similarly, I have worked in day camps and have even furthered my creativity. I love singing songs with the children as a large group and doing camp-wide games. Working as Inclusion Facilitator at one of these camps (paired with my work as a support person with EAF) I have built on my flexibility. I am able to modify games and activities to suit the needs of all individuals. I have learned quite a bit of sign language and am familiar with communicating using visual cards. Coaching soccer has been amazing for me as well, since soccer and athleticism is one of my personal passions. The groups I teach start as young as 18 months, so I really enjoy being a part of furthering the development of these children. I teach basic motor and social skills to allow these children to grow and continue with the sport at the next age group. I also believe that the skills I teach help these children in other areas of their life.
I have recently had the opportunity of a lifetime to au pair (nanny) for an amazing family in Australia where I spent almost a full year with them. These children (ages 1, 3, 3, 5) and I built a special bond and I was able to act as another role model in their lives. I was able to live with this family, and they treated me as nothing less than a member of their family. It was an amazing experience.
I have a vast amount of training related to this field. I am certified in first aid/cpr, safetalk (suicide prevention), high five principles of healthy childhood development, epipen training, crisis intervention training, etc. I feel that I am equipped to handle any experience and would welcome it with open arms. I love to meet new families and learn along the way.
My hobbies include photography, spending time outdoors, and cooking.
I look forward to hearing from you, if you think we'll be a great match please do not hesitate to reach out :)
