About Me
Hi, I 'm Sophie and I'm a UBC Bachelor of Arts graduate with a major in psychology with plans to attend graduate school to work in clinical psychology with a focus on children. I'm an outgoing person with lots of enthusiasm, and find it extremely rewarding to work with children. I work very well under pressure, and have a calm and light-hearted disposition. I love spending time with children and love how curious and inquisitive they are about the world! If you are interested, I would be happy to provide references from 3 families that I have babysat or nannied for.
I've had a lot of experience working with children with ages ranging from new born to 10 years old. This summer I worked at Pedalheads, a bike camp that helped children to become comfortable and confident on their bikes. Last year I looked after a 6 year old girl, picking her up from kindergarten and caring for her till her parents get home. I have worked with her and her family for the past 4 years and also started looking after her brother when he was born 3 years ago. I also looked after a 4.5 year old boy this year, and we've had adventures at Science World, the aquarium, Granville Island, the planetarium and many many playgrounds! Last summer I looked after a 3 year old girl and a 1 year old brother, care for them included arts and crafts, visits to the West Side Family Place, the library and playgrounds. I would also prepare meals for the children and put the baby down for naps. Prior to graduating, I was looking after a 3 year old boy twice a week, as well as dropping off and picking up his 6 year old sister from school. During my time at UBC I worked as a research assistant at Science World with a UBC lab that studies development in children through the use of games and activities; this involved working with children ages 2-10. I've recently started volunteering at another UBC lab as a research assistant helping to study children who are diagnosed with ADHD,
I have my Canadian Red Cross Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR, lifeguard training, swimming instructor training, and food-safe training.
I'm looking for part-time work during the week that I can work around my volunteering for psychology labs and work as a behaviour interventionist
