Hi, My name is Marina, I’m nineteen and I’m from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I just finished my second year of Arts & Science classes at the University of Saskatchewan. I currently am an undeclared major but am interested in Journalism and Psychology. I am the third of four kids; I have an older brother (24), an older sister (22), and a younger brother (16). I come from a big family so I’ve always been surrounded by plenty of people at different ages. I spend every other weekend with my mom’s boyfriend’s six and nine-year-old boys, usually playing sports outside (if it’s not in the middle of our Canadian winter), going camping, doing crafts or going to horse races. When I was in high school I helped coach the junior badminton team which was rewarding because I not only got to continue playing badminton and teaching people a new sport, but I got to see students grow as athletes, develop confidence and have fun. I also had a unique experience last summer working on a summer student project in the Broadway neighbourhood helping to preserve the history through a self-guided QR Code walking tour. After I completed my work for the project I got to spend three months with a grade 7/8 class from a school in the neighbourhood to involve kids in the community in the project. Going into it I wasn’t sure how well it would work, but by the end of it, it was by far my favorite part of the whole project!
