  • About Me

I am a third year English Literature and History student at Queen's University, and throughout the course of my life I have lived in multiple places across Ontario and Quebec, including Toronto, Ottawa, Whitby, and Montreal, making me a very diverse, cultured, and relatable individual. Over this time, I have become extremely interested in education and found my passion in working with children; for the past four summers I have worked as summer staff and as the Counsellor-in-Training Director for a non-profit organization called Girls Incorporated of Durham. Through this job, I have come to learn and excel at being an excellent role model, at executing conflict resolution, and at being able to relate to children and meet them at their level. I feel as if this experience, along with my other experience in tutoring, makes me an extremely qualified candidate for a position as a child caregiver or as a nanny.
Some of my interests and hobbies include: reading, dance, tennis, and cooking. I have been involved in all of these activities for the past several years and have developed passion for each interest. I truly believe that one should be involved in whatever it is that makes them happy, as this will contribute to a positive and healthy lifestyle, and I am proud to say that my interests and hobbies have had that effect on me; I excel at remaining positive and grounded through any situation I am put in, making me an excellent problem solver and a great addition to any environment. Over the summer of 2014, I had the opportunity to study at a Queen's institution in England, the Bader International Study Centre, and through this experience I developed excellent foresight at anticipating any problems that may arise, as well as how to facilitate compromise within a team, two skills I believe are crucial in working with children.
I am very organized and have excellent time management skills, and I believe this is a great asset in working with children, especially young ones. I think it is important to set out goals for each day and to respond to what the children do and don't like in planning activities so that they are getting the most out of every day. Especially with siblings, it is very important to know how to appeal to each child so that they all feel valued and appreciated, a skill I have come to learn through working at summer camp, but also by growing up with a younger sister.
I very much hope my passion for working with children is recognized and I hope that I possess the skills necessary for working in your environment and with your families.
