This past summer i taught an ecology class to elementary school kids in my hometown, i had 40 kids per group and i had 6 groups, so if you do the math i taught ecology to 240 kids from a public elementary school in mexico, and public schools in mexico are not as good as canadian's, kids tend to misbehave way too much for their age in public schools than in private schools (in mexico), so as part of my community service i achieved to teach them how to recycle, save energy & water, take care of their pets and animals in general, and for the little ones (between 5 and 7) i taught them in a fun way (raising my fist) to be quiet whenever a teacher is speaking and giving instructions in class, this was on a summer camp for 2 and a half weeks, and at the end i made friends with the kids, not all of them because i had a lot of kids to take care of and to teach them also, but they got fun with me and the class, i liked to explain the topic (i.e. recycling) and then doing a craft with the materials we had in class, they would use paper to do a frog and put it in their hand so they could play and do the frog's voice, or drawing something related to nature and then putting the drawings outside for the whole day and the next day see how many contamination we had around us (by placing an object at the middle of the drawing).

On this summer i realized i enjoyed and enjoy being around children (taking care of them but also teaching them whether is a school course or a summer course) because you can, somehow, forget about your age and just try to have fun with them in a safe way, and yet trying to behave in a way they can listen to you (and behaving themselves as well) without the pressure or thought that you're the authority .
