Hi there :) My name is Brittany and I will be moving to Halifax in a few weeks to finish up my second degree in Interior Design through an online agenda and to take the next step in a serious relationship with my boyfriend as we move into our first home together! Right now, I am looking into a variety of jobs and am willing to take this opportunity in relocating to broaden my horizons once again. I am currently the Project Manager and Interior Design Administrator for a Custom Home building company in Kingston, Ontario. I received an amazing opportunity having the job offer come my way with little to no experience and I took it! It has turned out to be the most fulfilling 2 years of my career path, thus far. I mean, I get to shop and boss around construction workers all day?! But on a more serious note... I'm in charge of all of the design choices working with the homeowner's, conducting contracts and selection packages, as well as being on the job site to make sure all sub-trades are on schedule and that all building elements are to Ontario Building code and according to plans. It is a great position that allows me to show off my above-average organizational skills as the "go-to" person of the company. I love that each day is a new adventure and it's a perfect balance of self-initiation - working on my own and working as a team with a variety of individuals. Having said that, it is a hard position to leave though I want to move on to bigger and better things and with that comes the education required - so the move to the Maritimes has come at a perfect time :) Before the position I am in now, I was studying Biology at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario as well as working at a pharmacy as a technician. This fairly large change from the "sciences" to the "arts" has given me a fantastic overall picture in life, which I'm very proud to have. Last Autumn I had the opportunity to look after a family friend's little boy just over a year old and it was very similar to a live-out nanny position. I was there 2-3 days/week and throughout the day, he and I worked through our flexible schedule of meal times, reading/playing, napping, going for walks/ being outside, and once he was older - starting crafts. I also cleaned and did dishes throughout the day and did laundry when it was required. I thought it was great! Though once work picked up in home building and I was needed in the office each day, I had to turn down time with the toddler to move on to a position I was working really hard for! I've always had a very busy schedule from dance classes to volleyball practice. Being an avid member of my Student's Council and continuing to horse back ride and competitively jump since I was 7 years old. Looking back now I see how hard it must have been juggling all of that for my parents and can certainly empathize with the strain that could be put on a family! I'm writing all of this because I think that “Nannying” for a lovely family would give me a sense of belonging in a new place and an opportunity to make new little friends that I other wise wouldn't get to meet in a big city. I at least think that I have a great, outgoing personality and get along with lots of different types of people. I am a softhearted and thoughtful person though crocodile tears won't scare me into giving another cookie before supper ;) I have always operated on a fairly structured routine and healthy lifestyle and would love to offer that in a position. I'm interested in working a Monday-Friday position, during business hours and am possibly available on some nights and weekends. Though family traditions are very important to me and I would need Holidays off to spend in Ontario. Our home is in the South End of Halifax and I would love to find a family that would be in that same area. Lastly, I will be moving to Halifax on September 20th and available to start work on the 29th or October 1st, whatever is easiest :) Feel free to contact me anytime via email or phone. Thanks for your time :) Brittany
